Yep, that's right - this time round the theme is a scene from Google Streetview. For both of you who don't yet know what streetview is, it's Google's nifty attempt to provide panoramic photos of every street in major cities, accessible through Google Maps, in an awesome swishy uber-dynamic way. It's also a damn good excuse for never going on holiday again. Check it out here.
So, here's the deal:
1) Find a scene you like on streetview
2) Remake it in Hammer.
3) Post up to 3 in-game screenshots in this thread, along with the streetview link.
I'll permit some flexibility with this. For a start, you don't have to have your in-game camera position the same as Google's: you can elevate it, move it over to the sidewalk, etc. The aim isn't to recreate exactly what you see in streetview; just the place you've picked, in a recognizable form. You can also do things like change from day to night, etc, swap out some buildings, grunge up a nice neighbourhood a bit, do some imaginary urban redevelopment...etc.
However, all that said, I'd like to avoid wholesale revisions like past/future, post-apocalyptic etc. I'd like to keep it 'pure', and make it an exercise in architecture, detailing etc - rather than "omg my street in teh apocalyse!" or "look! flying cars!". If you think your idea might push the boundaries, please get in touch and clear it with us first.
Also, let your thoughts be known - keep it pure or make it free? My fear is that there have been quite a few 'concept' themes lately, and I don't want everyone doing stuff where the idea is more important than the mapping.
When posting, don't forget to include a streetview link. In Google maps, click the 'link' button at the top-right corner of the map to get the correct URL. When posting here, play nice and post it as a nice short url like this - don't just post the whole eye-straining mess directly!
I'll give a little longer than last time for this (because we've got to factor in a few hundred hours of streetview timewasting, for a start!:P) The deadline will be Monday 23rd February. As usual, the close will be at the end of that day, at mignight GMT; for the closing times around the world, check here.
All the usual rules apply: Three screenshots max; from an official Valve Source engine game; custom content more than welcome. You can find the full rules here. If you've got any questions about the theme, the rules or the battles generally, either post in this thread or PM me or 904.
